A Brief History of MCTI

Marvelous College of Technology, Inc. was established to provide accessible, high-quality education, evolving over the years into a trusted institution for developing skilled and values-driven professionals.

History of Marvelous College of Technology Incorporated (MCTI)

Marvelous College of Technology Incorporated (MCTI) was officially registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission on January 8, 2008, under its original name Marvelous Institute of Technical College Incorporated (MITCI). The institution was founded through the combined efforts of educators, businessmen, and professionals who envisioned a competitive and accessible educational institution, especially for learners from low-income families. MCTI is located at M.H. Del Pilar Street, Barangay Zone IV, Koronadal City, in the province of South Cotabato.

The Beginnings

In June 2008, MITCI welcomed its first batch of 405 students from first year to fourth year across various programs. During the same year, it filed for accreditation of Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs with TESDA under the leadership of Mr. Juanito Cueva, then-director of TESDA Region XII. Programs like Hotel and Restaurant Management, Food and Beverage Services, Building Wiring Installation, Mechanical Technology, Information Technology, Consumer Electronics, and Driving were subsequently granted Certificates of Program Registration (COPR) by June 24, 2008.

MITCI initially offered TESDA courses and associate degrees. However, in a strategic move to provide more competitive education, Mr. Agapito D. Lubaton, the school administrator, partnered with Southern Mindanao Institute of Technology (SMIT) to enable students in Hotel and Restaurant Management and Information Technology to earn baccalaureate degrees.

From Technical School to College

In October 2008, 29 students graduated from programs in Mechanical Technology, HRM, IT, and Driving-Mechanic. Inspired by this momentum, CHED Director Ms. Eloisa Paderanga encouraged MCTI to transition from TESDA courses to baccalaureate degree programs. This led to the official name change to Marvelous College of Technology Incorporated (MCTI), approved by the SEC on November 13, 2008.

By March 2009, MCTI held its first Commencement Exercises with 135 graduates. Notably:

  • BS Information Technology (BSIT) graduates included Ms. Janly Grace Aspera, Ms. Angelica Cabalse, Ms. Cyrine Mae Francisco, Ms. Nerphe Licos, and Ms. Audrey Lywyllyn Uy.
  • BTTE-Automotive Technology graduates included Mr. Candelario Faderon, Mr. Jerson Rubrico, Mr. Joey Rubrico, and Mr. Arjay Tumbagahan.
  • The lone BTTE-Electronics Technology graduate was Mr. Normandy Elisan.
Employment & Industry Linkages

MCTI quickly established strong linkages with both local and international industries. Through a Memorandum of Agreement with DOLE Region XII, MCTI became a Public Employment Satellite Office (PESO) for South Cotabato. Graduates found employment in Canada, Riyadh, and Hanjin Offshore Shipyard in Subic.
